A HERB FOR BEAUTY

Lawsonia Inermis - HENNA

Its application is a 6000 year old tradition from Egypt (according to the oldest archeological proofs). Written records say it was used as a herb first of all (disinfecting, cooling, antibacterial, fungicide and soothing effects were widespreadly known ) and only later did they discover that the paste used for cooling the skin leaves a delicate tint. Hence it is an ancient Indian cosmetic and has been used for decoration for thousands of years.

It is still a bit of delicacy in the modern world, a way to honour beauty.

HENNA BODY PAINTING

A decorative, temporary tattoo. Choose your own style then chose a new one! Display confidence, uniqueness and your beauty.

The leaves of  Lawsonia Inermis are dried and ground and the fine powder is made into thick dark green-brown paste. It is applied onto the skin and the more it may stay there the stronger dark ochre-orange colour it will leave, which turns into dark tan-brown within a day or two.The pattern is on the surface of the skin, thus not permanent though depending on the skin-, and the henna-type it fades away only in 1-4 weeks.
Wear it like a special make-up:
- for the beach (when most of the skin is exposed)
- for parties (to feel different and wicked)
- for special occassions (delicately matching the clothes)
- for a gift (a surprise on bodyparts only special ones may see)

(Photos were made by the wonderful artist from whom I learned a lot and who still supports and encourages my work. Thank you, Timi!)

MAMA-HENNA

HENNA is the Persian name for Lawsonia Inermis, which has been used cosmetically and medicinally for thousands of years.  Henna contains hennotannic acid, a dye that bonds with the collagen in skin cells leaving behind unique coloring, as well as having cooling and antifungal effect.

Applying henna to the pregnant belly in certain cultures is believed to protect and bless the mother and child. Modern mamas-to-be are taking part in this ancient tradition to make this unique time of their lives even more special.

Anything that is applied to the skin can be absorbed into the blood stream and cross the placental barrier. Since Lawsonia Inermis is a HERB and is mixed with NATURAL ingredients such as water, lemon, sugar it is ideal cosmetic decoration for moms to be. (Some paste contain essential oils, which might cause slight itching on sensitive skin.) The henna paste is cooling and can help relieve heat exhaustion and soothe hot skin.

Also having henna applied means giving time and attention to yourself, your baby and your connection. You, Mom, have to find time to sit down, relax and focus on your belly, on your pregnancy, and your new life.

( Henna should only be avoided or used sparingly if you are extremely anemic, have chronic or acute condition affecting your blood or immune system, or the baby has G6PD deficiency. )

As you cannot hide your baby bump, why not be proud of it?
Henna brings something restful and joyous and helps to embrace this transformation and celebrate giving life.
